If You Know Hospitals...







... then you might have suspected how much our plans would change this week. Yesterday Eric went in for the bone marrow biopsy and they decided to keep him overnight and do the PT Scan as well. This was a change of plans we welcomed, despite the fact that I had to stay home while he stayed up there. We are very grateful that they did both procedures yesterday, so that hopefully we will know everything by tomorrow (again, here I am, trying to make plans!).



They only biopsied one hip, and the only part that hurt was the needle to numb him, "like a hundred bee stings" I believe he said. Then Peggy and Eric waited in the waiting room until they fixed the scan machine and he was admitted to a room: the exact same room as the one we stayed in over Thanksgiving, in fact. One of the nurses didn't even know he'd left!



We have a few updates on the condition of his cancer. First, they have narrowed it down to two types of lymphoma: Hodgkin or PTCL. We are hoping it is Hodgkin, because the T Cell Lymphomas are far more rare and harder to treat (though still possible). His node biopsy actually showed positive for both of these, so they sent his nodes all the way to Washington D.C. to another specialist to determine with a finer test. The nodes are being sent back as I write this, and hopefully the rest of the results. Tomorrow we meet with our doctor to go over it, which we had planned for Thursday. Second, we know now that the cancer has not spread to any other systems (it is only in the nodes on his throat and groin). Third, Eric is starting to take steroids that will supplement his chemotherapy. There goes his baseball career.


That's it for now. Everyone let me know if you want posts more frequently, or less frequently I guess. I'm trying not to bombard you everyday with all my feelings, but I know everyone is interested. We are so thankful for all of your prayers, again, and all of your concern.

    Janey: Love your optimism but it might be a non-Hodgkins the PTCL one. He tested positive for both at Huntsman. SO I don't know if you'll read this back. But we'll find out tomorrow hopefully. Thanks everyone. Much love.

    Eric--This is Megan (Haskett) Armstrong from back in the day. I'm sorry to hear of your news. I've been watching this blog and reading your facebook updates. You and your wife seem to be doing wonderfully well with all the news you're receiving. I hope you can find out which kind of cancer quickly and receive treatments quickly as well.

    well Holly, you and i have not had a chance to meet but i've known eric since he was born. my husband, larry, and i are keeping you both in our prayers too. and i think frequent updates never hurt. :) it's still up to each person how often they read your blog so you wont be boring anyone i'm sure.

Pictures from the Cruise

To accompany the last post. And Eric is the best for sending me the pics! Because they are great. It's just from the zip lining in Ensenada but it was so fun. Just off the ship in Ensenada. The whole group. Love being a part of this family! Getting geared up. Literally.  Don't be fooled. I was petrified at this point. This is Dave and Katie but it's the best showing of the first bridge. Eric about to cross the first bridge. I think this was the 3rd one. This was the easiest, I thought. Even though I look a little off balanced here. This is Katie. But this one was actually the hardest I thought, because you had to reach so high. My shoulder killed for like 4 days after this. Oh, and how about an actual zip line?! Doesn't look fast, but it was. It shows the distance really well, though. Eric had had enough and decided to take over the mic for the duration of the "tour"

Just a little curious

 Does anyone else go back and read their own blog? Of course you do. It's a journal format. But I wonder if anyone goes and reads anyone else's blog still. I still read my parents' blogs, but even those have been several months. I haven't looked at my sisters' blogs in years, I don't know if I can remember the urls.  I logged in just to see if I could still get access so I'm leaving a little note to the world. It is so strange how the world changes. Personal blogs felt so permanent, but they weren't. They faded, and while it's still here, maybe no one else will ever read this again. Maybe an anthropologist digging through digital history trying to discover what the ancient world was... but doesn't it feel like all of this will be gone? And they'll be trying to learn more through my hairbrush and stanley cup?  But who am I to predict what will last and what will disappear?
