What Are You Waiting For, A Flood?!

Man, all those times I used to make fun of the kids that wore pants that were too short for them. Serves me right, doesn't it?

Eric left town for Vancouver this weekend, and I awoke early Friday morning to take my sister, Lisa, to the airport. I was starting to become coherent when my dear brother-in-law pounded on my bedroom door, almost throwing me into cardiac arrest. I opened the door already quite moody, and stepped into a river. Most of our apartment was sopping and the flow continued from the kitchen. Boo.

It was the dishwasher. Yeah. Remember that one time we just got a new dishwasher installed?! Apparently some hose or other dishwasher rhetoric exposed our apartment to the harshness of a water world (and, no Coloradans, I'm not talking about the Water World where the Fun Shines).

I had to take Lisa to the airport still, Jeff thankfully stopped the waterflow, and we have been living with 7 obnoxious fans in our apartment ever since. It also leaked into the two apartments below us, bless our unfortunate landlords. So the dishwasher was fixed day of but I still haven't used it since... I'm scared! Not that it makes much of a difference at this point considering the wind and the waves have created a sort of hurricane effect. The dishes are the least of our worries.

it's hard to capture the wind in a photo, but you get the idea...

I would like to turn the time over for Eric to speak about his adventures in Vancouver. But what I like and what I get are two different things. It sounds like he had a really good time with the Glem family. I think he needed the break, and I think the family was relieved to see how good he looks and acts. And I got to feel the worrying that comes with being away from him! I dwelled so much more on unknowns when he was gone.

He was feeling so well he attempted to play basketball this week. He has recently been quoted to have felt, "like a baby deer first learning to walk". His legs are so weak! But his shot isn't half bad. I'm sure he felt worse than he really was but I didn't get to see it due to some school activities. But if there's a next time I'll try to get a video haha!

Chemo #4 was today (the first half of this post was written yesterday--- and while I'm mentioning of it, the fans are finally gone!). He is weighing in at 138 lbs. It was overcrowded today so we were in an overflow room. Right now Eric is flopped onto the bed next to me, and really just not feeling well. But the session went well overall. We are feeling a little strange at this point because everything has become a routine, and there is nothing newly revealed on these occasions; it leaves you with a sort of empty feeling. It is the lack of emotion or assurance.

Still have little to no information on the bone marrow transplant. But they will be doing another bone marrow biopsy in two weeks. If his bone marrow isn't healthy there is no way they would do the transplant so let's hope for the best there! I promise you will all know as soon as we know.

Quick ShoutOut to Nate Fernsten and his fiancée, Rachel, they merit the Visitor of the Week for January 3-9! If you want the spot of Visitor of the Week, well. Requirements: be awesome and COME SEE US!!!!!

  1. Visitor of the week huh...hmmmm have to start thinking about that, as though we haven't already been figuring and waiting for the best time. Yes, we were surprised how good the E Man looked! We stayed up late visiting and had a few chuckles also. We hope next time you can be with him Holly. And the Gillespie kids kept looking for you when Eric first arrived. Have a great evening... Love you both...

  4. Well, thank goodness I have half of the "Visitor of the Week" requirements covered...the being awesome part, anyway! I can tell by this blog entry that you are feeling so scattered and pulled in different directions...chemo, fans, school...but you continue to rise above the chaos! I enjoy reading people's comments almost as much as the blog itself...imagining those Gillespie kids looking for you when Eric arrived just made me smile! "Now you're REALLY our Aunt Holly!"--a favorite comment from one of your new nephews! You couldn't ask for better in-laws! And I couldn't ask for a better daughter! I love you both so much!

I had a baby.

It's a boy. I actually came to blogger to write about something else, but then I realized I haven't announced that I did, in fact, birth my child, and he did, in fact, make it here, which I'm not making light of. It is a fact I repeat to myself often. He is here, we made it. I am his mother and Eric is his father. He is a person and he learns every day. While it is easy to see him for what he is most right now, which is CUTE , he is also mellow and funny and happy, observant and sometimes timid, and sometimes noisy, aware and eager to grow. It is an amazingly wonderful and spiritual thing and I'm grateful every day for my son and the opportunity to raise him each day. I have had too many close to home tragedies recently to take this for granted. My dear neighbor and friend lost her son at 4 years old, an unexplainable accident that took him home to Heavenly Father. Another, my sister's closest friend, lost her son at 39 weeks pregnant, his body born to his famil...

Pictures from the Cruise

To accompany the last post. And Eric is the best for sending me the pics! Because they are great. It's just from the zip lining in Ensenada but it was so fun. Just off the ship in Ensenada. The whole group. Love being a part of this family! Getting geared up. Literally.  Don't be fooled. I was petrified at this point. This is Dave and Katie but it's the best showing of the first bridge. Eric about to cross the first bridge. I think this was the 3rd one. This was the easiest, I thought. Even though I look a little off balanced here. This is Katie. But this one was actually the hardest I thought, because you had to reach so high. My shoulder killed for like 4 days after this. Oh, and how about an actual zip line?! Doesn't look fast, but it was. It shows the distance really well, though. Eric had had enough and decided to take over the mic for the duration of the "tour"

Just a little curious

Does anyone else go back and read their own blog? Of course you do. It's a journal format. But I wonder if anyone goes and reads anyone else's blog still. I still read my parents' blogs, but even those have been several months. I haven't looked at my sisters' blogs in years, I don't know if I can remember the urls.  I logged in just to see if I could still get access so I'm leaving a little note to the world. It is so strange how the world changes. Personal blogs felt so permanent, but they weren't. They faded, and while it's still here, maybe no one else will ever read this again. Maybe an anthropologist digging through digital history trying to discover what the ancient world was... but doesn't it feel like all of this will be gone? And they'll be trying to learn more through my hairbrush and stanley cup?  But who am I to predict what will last and what will disappear?
