Happy.

I will journal this blog because I certainly have not in a while. First of all, you can all come to my rescue. I am a very good speller, if I do say so myself. And on occasion I have an error on the blog just because it is difficult to write and edit when you are posting for everyone to see. But I can never remember if it is "a while" or "awhile". HELP ME!!! I don't know if they both are legit, if they are what's the difference? What's wrong with me?!

The BYU basketball home opener went really well. It sold out and I honestly attribute it to Eric and Brady for all their hard work on the videos (besides word of mouth and camping). They worked really hard and it was an awesome game. Definitely haven't stopped working, but I am glad that we are getting into the season and it isn't the all consuming force in our lives that it was before Nov. 12th. Eric had a new great idea for the Arizona game on Saturday--- a little motivator to entice students to arrive early to Energy Solutions Arena, school buses and (hopefully) a discounted lunch price. More to follow once it is organized. Basketball has kept Eric really busy, but he is starting to get bored without a job. School and sports are great but he's got some time. So he is starting to look for work. The ideal job? Substitute teaching. Wouldn't Eric be your favorite sub of all time?!

Eric was going to surprise me with a Christmas tree the other day, so he went to a lot and found one he liked, for 50 bucks! So he said yeah right and drove his happy self (and Jeff, Tyler and Brady) up to the mountain and chopped one down. Now everywhere we go he says, so what, let's buy _______, we saved $50 on a Christmas tree! If I'd had the foresight to paste my pictures in the blog first I'd show it to you. It's so Charlie Brown Chic.

We spent Thanksgiving in Fort Worth, TX with everyone of my sisters! Jen lives down there and JenandNick were the most gracious hosts. It was a huge blessing to have all my sisters around. I don't know why I didn't expect it, but it really made me miss my mom. Eric loved Elway (one of their dogs) and gave me hope for having a fairly normal sized dog in the future. Jen worked really hard to make a perfect dinner and was successful. One of the highlights from the trip was playing Disney karaoke on the wii. Nick dominates at Hakuna Matata but there were songs for everyone. Except Matt. He is not a fan of karoake, I can't imagine why. :) But oh oh oh! My niece! She is heaven on earth, she is honeycrisp apples and sweet mint gum and every single one of my favorite things. I will find a way to post a video of her and Eric. I die every time. And from this lopsided paragraph the conclusion is simple: thanks to Nick and Jen for a much needed vacation.

Eric has finals next week, and I am going to Maui. I've never been to Hawaii so 98% excited and 2% scared, or maybe it's 98% scared and 2% excited. It is for work for a manager retreat and training, and if it hadn't been finals week Eric could have gone with me! Oh cruel fate.

This has been our autumn experience and I don't think it could've rolled out better.

  5. Holly, you know how readily I am willing to come to your rescue. So here goes: I think a while is nounish and awhile is adverbish. Can I give you an example? No. I can't. Also, not sure if I'm correct on this, but it's what my brain tells me. Thought I would give it a stab. Long story short, I think your opening sentence is correct because it is the noun version. If you said, "It has been awhile since I updated my blog...", then that's adverb style. Hey, guess I gave an example after all.

Longest comment ever? Looks like I'm "journaling" this comment as it were.

Anyways, have fun in Hawaii. Jealous much.

And awesome that Eric cut down his own tree. Ha ha. That is something I would have liked to witness.

  6. I'm ba-ack!

I think my "adverb example" is a noun example after all. But who knows?

    Carry on.

I had a baby.

It's a boy. I actually came to blogger to write about something else, but then I realized I haven't announced that I did, in fact, birth my child, and he did, in fact, make it here, which I'm not making light of. It is a fact I repeat to myself often. He is here, we made it. I am his mother and Eric is his father. He is a person and he learns every day. While it is easy to see him for what he is most right now, which is CUTE , he is also mellow and funny and happy, observant and sometimes timid, and sometimes noisy, aware and eager to grow. It is an amazingly wonderful and spiritual thing and I'm grateful every day for my son and the opportunity to raise him each day. I have had too many close to home tragedies recently to take this for granted. My dear neighbor and friend lost her son at 4 years old, an unexplainable accident that took him home to Heavenly Father. Another, my sister's closest friend, lost her son at 39 weeks pregnant, his body born to his famil...

Pictures from the Cruise

To accompany the last post. And Eric is the best for sending me the pics! Because they are great. It's just from the zip lining in Ensenada but it was so fun. Just off the ship in Ensenada. The whole group. Love being a part of this family! Getting geared up. Literally.  Don't be fooled. I was petrified at this point. This is Dave and Katie but it's the best showing of the first bridge. Eric about to cross the first bridge. I think this was the 3rd one. This was the easiest, I thought. Even though I look a little off balanced here. This is Katie. But this one was actually the hardest I thought, because you had to reach so high. My shoulder killed for like 4 days after this. Oh, and how about an actual zip line?! Doesn't look fast, but it was. It shows the distance really well, though. Eric had had enough and decided to take over the mic for the duration of the "tour"

Just a little curious

Does anyone else go back and read their own blog? Of course you do. It's a journal format. But I wonder if anyone goes and reads anyone else's blog still. I still read my parents' blogs, but even those have been several months. I haven't looked at my sisters' blogs in years, I don't know if I can remember the urls.  I logged in just to see if I could still get access so I'm leaving a little note to the world. It is so strange how the world changes. Personal blogs felt so permanent, but they weren't. They faded, and while it's still here, maybe no one else will ever read this again. Maybe an anthropologist digging through digital history trying to discover what the ancient world was... but doesn't it feel like all of this will be gone? And they'll be trying to learn more through my hairbrush and stanley cup?  But who am I to predict what will last and what will disappear?
