Peggy Jo Glem

It is so hard to put into words the feelings I have about temporarily losing Peggy in our life. My mother in law passed away December 18th. I might think of something to say in the future, but right now all I can think to do is post the few pictures I have of her from my perspective of life. She lived so much more than I got to see, but here is my small tribute to her.

Tom and Peggy are two different people that work great together. They are wonderful.

She was one of our four very supportive and loving parents that got us to the temple and stood by us at our sealing.

There weren't very many members of my own family in the temple with me for my endowment; I remember distinctly looking over when Peggy and my sister-in-laws walked in and feeling overwhelmingly grateful that they were there and a new part of my family.

The whole Glem Crew. Peggy's prides and joys: husband, parents, children, grandchildren. <3

Don't they look so much alike?!

This was the family hanging out at Tom's 60th birthday. See Peggy soaking it up and ready to jump in with a story.

Eric and Jeff went to College Game Day on October 24th so they decided to make a sign and surprise their mom. They got the sign on tv and made Peggy's birthday. I could always tell how much Eric loved her. He was a good son, calling her (nearly) every day. She could never doubt his affection for her.

I always laughed at the way she could not say Chipotle. She always said "Chipol-tay", but we never corrected her.

We will miss her so much. I'm so grateful for the few years I got to spend getting to know her. I hesitate to say it but I feel jipped.

However, I know she is happy and I know we will miss her until we see her again. But our lives will be filled with a lot of joy in the years to come, and we will take every opportunity to enjoy it, just as Peggy would tell us to do on her long birthday words of wisdom.

I wish I had more pictures. I wish I had more time. How selfish of me, I am aware. But I can't help it. I liked her. I loved her. I ache for Eric, for Jeff, Katie, Erin, Lisa. For Tom. But I know there is a big huge plan and this event has opened my spiritual peripheral vision. For that I am grateful, and Peggy: I know when I get to the other side you will be there waiting for me, just like you were in the temple that day. You will show me the way and I will not be afraid.

We love you.

  1. Oh Holly, your words (and photos) are beautiful. Peggy is lucky to have you as a daughter-in-law and I can only imagine she will be missing you too. I'm so glad you are comforted by knowing you will see her again.

Keeping you and Eric in my prayers.

  4. My condolences guys. I hate hearing such news. Fortunately our understanding of the plan of salvation helps to ease the pain, even if only slightly.

    p.s. Holly, nice tribute.

I had a baby.

It's a boy. I actually came to blogger to write about something else, but then I realized I haven't announced that I did, in fact, birth my child, and he did, in fact, make it here, which I'm not making light of. It is a fact I repeat to myself often. He is here, we made it. I am his mother and Eric is his father. He is a person and he learns every day. While it is easy to see him for what he is most right now, which is CUTE , he is also mellow and funny and happy, observant and sometimes timid, and sometimes noisy, aware and eager to grow. It is an amazingly wonderful and spiritual thing and I'm grateful every day for my son and the opportunity to raise him each day. I have had too many close to home tragedies recently to take this for granted. My dear neighbor and friend lost her son at 4 years old, an unexplainable accident that took him home to Heavenly Father. Another, my sister's closest friend, lost her son at 39 weeks pregnant, his body born to his famil...

Pictures from the Cruise

To accompany the last post. And Eric is the best for sending me the pics! Because they are great. It's just from the zip lining in Ensenada but it was so fun. Just off the ship in Ensenada. The whole group. Love being a part of this family! Getting geared up. Literally.  Don't be fooled. I was petrified at this point. This is Dave and Katie but it's the best showing of the first bridge. Eric about to cross the first bridge. I think this was the 3rd one. This was the easiest, I thought. Even though I look a little off balanced here. This is Katie. But this one was actually the hardest I thought, because you had to reach so high. My shoulder killed for like 4 days after this. Oh, and how about an actual zip line?! Doesn't look fast, but it was. It shows the distance really well, though. Eric had had enough and decided to take over the mic for the duration of the "tour"

Just a little curious

Does anyone else go back and read their own blog? Of course you do. It's a journal format. But I wonder if anyone goes and reads anyone else's blog still. I still read my parents' blogs, but even those have been several months. I haven't looked at my sisters' blogs in years, I don't know if I can remember the urls.  I logged in just to see if I could still get access so I'm leaving a little note to the world. It is so strange how the world changes. Personal blogs felt so permanent, but they weren't. They faded, and while it's still here, maybe no one else will ever read this again. Maybe an anthropologist digging through digital history trying to discover what the ancient world was... but doesn't it feel like all of this will be gone? And they'll be trying to learn more through my hairbrush and stanley cup?  But who am I to predict what will last and what will disappear?
