On Wednesday last week, Eric went up to Salt Lake for his bone marrow transplant consult. I was unable to attend due to my class schedule, so we are both anxious to get up there again and be able to ask questions. But here are some brief details and updates regarding the bone marrow transplant:
The transplant will take place in March as expected, probaby the second week, though it is still not scheduled. This means we will miss going to the Mountain West Conference Tournament in Vegas and are very sad about it. However, we are very grateful for the huge opportunity this transplant is and do not even want to make that sound like even a shadow of a complaint. Plus, that inspired us to go to Vegas this weekend with a few of our good friends! Details coming shortly...
So Eric will be back and forth to SLC quite a bit in these next couple weeks. Four times this week: one to put in this line, like a port that will prevent him from having to be poked with needles anymore, two to get the dressing changed on his wounds from one, three for first a new scan to check the status on the cancer and later that day chemo #5 (can you believe how fast it is going?!) and four for the Neulasta shot he always gets after chemo. He will go 6 days in a row before the transplant for shots everyday, unless we can convince them to let me shoot him up! Everything is accelerating right now.
I think Eric walked away from the consult remembering that he is rather sick and that this is a very serious matter. It reminded us what it is like to not be sure what's going on, as we were when he wasn't diagnosed. I am surprised how quickly this all has morphed into a routine.
Now. In the meantime, we are having a great time NOT thinking about Eric being sick, so we went to Vegas as mentioned above. We'd had a get together with some friends last weekend and talked about it, but unlike most get togethers with friends where you make lofty plans, we actually followed through.
This weekend was so fun! We were going non-stop and hit the strip right away. Saturday we went to a driving range, then putted a course at this great place. I don't know what it was called.

The whole group. It was a little cold but totally worth it.

Eric was hitting really well. We're thinking he needs to start golfing for real.
We miraculously scrounged tickets to the Garth Brooks show at the Wynn for Saturday night at 10:30p.m. I cannot describe the excitement this created, especially for Em, Kiley and myself. It was an acoustic show, and it was a fairly small venue so it felt intimate. He was so casual and fun. Really just an awesome experience. I couldn't believe we were there.

Right before the show. We couldn't take pictures inside, so these'll just have to do.

Yay!

We may have to make Stottles and Mundays Honorary Visitors of the Week, though we were technically visiting another place with them. But it was such a nice break from our daily lives. So thanks, team!
Today was the first trip to SLC this week. We bounced back and forth from Huntsman to the U of U Hospital. The procedure for today was a lot more gruelling and long then expected I think for both of us. He was stripped and sedated and this is what he has to show for it...

Wow, Vegas looked great!! I miss being able to just pick up and leave like we did before we had the kids.. Enjoy this stage of your marriage, it's so fun!! You're still in our prayers! Good luck these next couple months.
ReplyDeleteI think I will say it again..."Holly, you are a great writer!" Eric (Chandler) I am glad you don't have to be poked and stuck with needles anymore. What a great trip to take together. What great memories! Just know that our family still prays for you many times a day and you are constantly in our thoughts. We love you! (Eric, Chicken Rolls can be on the menu tomorrow night if you would like!)
ReplyDeleteAck! That last photo made me gasp! That looks painful!:P So glad you're in good spirits! I think of you guys and pray hard every day!
ReplyDeleteGreat that you guys escaped to Vegas! We sure do love you! :)
glad you had a great time in vegas and wow! totally lucky on getting those tickets!
ReplyDeleteEric, buddy, you and me: board game fest. Our lofty plans shall not be denied.
ReplyDeleteHolly, I liked this part: "I think Eric walked away from the consult remembering that he is rather sick and that this is a very serious matter." Tell me you couldn't see that line coming straight from a Charles Dickens novel. Well done.
I want to stop by but hate to barge/inconvenience. Sorry for being a sucky friend, I don't try to be.
