The late night musings of The Scar.

So my mom asked if we could do blog topics, in order to foster the growth of a healthy blog. These are her topics for September, and I immediately fell behind. And in order to catch up (for which I am actually not under any obligation) I am going to do them all at once and quite late at night. I may wake up tomorrow and find this was a bad choice. That what i find amusing at this hour will not be nearly as amusing at 11am. But nevertheless.

WEEK 1: Tell us your superhero name and power
WEEK 2: Your LEAST favorite thing to do
WEEK 3: What almost always gives you goosebumps
WEEK 4: If you could instantly be proficient at anything, what would you choose?

I don't know what my superhero name would be, but I think it would start with The. Like The Scar! Yes, that's it (before I figured this out I typed The Awesome, The WonderHol, and the UnKnife...  not some of my best ideas). And I'd like to be able to heal people, things (get it?! the scar?! like as in I healed them so I'm the proof of the hurt?!). However, I'm sure I would learn that just because you can heal things, doesn't mean you always should, and the responsibility would burden me and the people I love. That is one of those things about being a super hero, isn't it?

My least favorite thing to do is so boring and obvious, but as I sat here thinking, I realized I have a lot to be thankful for, because I'm racking my brain for something that I have to do but hate doing. It really is dishes and laundry. I'm exactly the same as my sister Stef. I don't mind the rotation of laundry, it's the putting away that just never happens. Maybe if we bought a dresser. We moved about two months ago and gave back the dresser we were borrowing and still haven't bought one. The funny thing is it's not for lack of trying. We have dresser shopped for several Saturdays.  We've looked online at used. It is getting extremely hilarious at how indecisive we are being about getting a dresser. I don't know what we are looking for, but maybe when we find it it will stand out with a golden beam of sun smiling upon it.

Goosebumps... goosebumps... anyone else see that R.L. Stine totally has a new young adult book out? I didn't buy it. I never read Goosebumps anyway. I was reading Mary Higgins Clark when my peers were reading Goosebumps. It's funny 'cuz it's true. I'm sure I was that annoying know-it-all kid. Does The Know It All work for a superhero name? I guess if your super hero power is, in fact, to know it all. But knowledge is quite the responsibility too.

The Olympics always give me goosebumps. I find it to one of the best things that humankind has come up with. I can't believe how many countries come together, work together, despite their differences. I love how everyone is competing and proudly representing their country, but somehow their is no animosity, rather a binding,  unifying feeling. Ah. I just love it.

And if I could instantly be proficient at something, it would be blogging. HAHA jk. I'm obviously already awesome at blogging. I think it would be a third language. You never can know too many languages, that's what I always say.

I had a baby.

It's a boy. I actually came to blogger to write about something else, but then I realized I haven't announced that I did, in fact, birth my child, and he did, in fact, make it here, which I'm not making light of. It is a fact I repeat to myself often. He is here, we made it. I am his mother and Eric is his father. He is a person and he learns every day. While it is easy to see him for what he is most right now, which is CUTE , he is also mellow and funny and happy, observant and sometimes timid, and sometimes noisy, aware and eager to grow. It is an amazingly wonderful and spiritual thing and I'm grateful every day for my son and the opportunity to raise him each day. I have had too many close to home tragedies recently to take this for granted. My dear neighbor and friend lost her son at 4 years old, an unexplainable accident that took him home to Heavenly Father. Another, my sister's closest friend, lost her son at 39 weeks pregnant, his body born to his famil...

Pictures from the Cruise

To accompany the last post. And Eric is the best for sending me the pics! Because they are great. It's just from the zip lining in Ensenada but it was so fun. Just off the ship in Ensenada. The whole group. Love being a part of this family! Getting geared up. Literally.  Don't be fooled. I was petrified at this point. This is Dave and Katie but it's the best showing of the first bridge. Eric about to cross the first bridge. I think this was the 3rd one. This was the easiest, I thought. Even though I look a little off balanced here. This is Katie. But this one was actually the hardest I thought, because you had to reach so high. My shoulder killed for like 4 days after this. Oh, and how about an actual zip line?! Doesn't look fast, but it was. It shows the distance really well, though. Eric had had enough and decided to take over the mic for the duration of the "tour"

Just a little curious

Does anyone else go back and read their own blog? Of course you do. It's a journal format. But I wonder if anyone goes and reads anyone else's blog still. I still read my parents' blogs, but even those have been several months. I haven't looked at my sisters' blogs in years, I don't know if I can remember the urls.  I logged in just to see if I could still get access so I'm leaving a little note to the world. It is so strange how the world changes. Personal blogs felt so permanent, but they weren't. They faded, and while it's still here, maybe no one else will ever read this again. Maybe an anthropologist digging through digital history trying to discover what the ancient world was... but doesn't it feel like all of this will be gone? And they'll be trying to learn more through my hairbrush and stanley cup?  But who am I to predict what will last and what will disappear?
